New Mentor for Museum
The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Gwynne as its Museum Mentor. The museum is currently housed at Wharf Station Tywyn on the Talyllyn Railway.
Bob Gwynne succeeds Anthony Coulls who after serving the Museum as Mentor for a number of years has stood down for workload reasons.
Bob brings a wide range of valuable qualities to this appointment. As a museum professional who has worked in the sector for more than 30 years, he is currently Associate Curator at the Railway Museum in York. He is a railway historian, author and presenter, with an intimate knowledge of the British system built up as a child and teenager with the help of his railwayman father. He understands the railway preservation movement, having been an active volunteer on the Llangollen Railway for more than 40 years, working on every extension to the line they have ever built. His roots and ancestry are in Wales.
He balances his professional interests with a love of wild places, having travelled extensively in the UK and overseas, and in a quest of over 30 years climbed all the Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000 ft).
Talking about his new appointment, Bob said:
“The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum plays a vital part in telling the story of railways, and I am grateful for the chance to help build on its many strengths. I enjoy communicating the importance of railway history, whilst always emphasising that railways are about people not ‘things’.”
